    SCCPSS students win national Stock Market Game

    SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association held their Stock Market Game, and two Savannah-Chatham County Public School System students excelled.

    Jacob Davis, a 10th grader at Woodville-Tompkins Technical and Career High School, placed first in the nation. As a first-place winner, Davis received a $250 Gift Card, an SMG Champion Trophy & SMG Swag Bag.

    Jimmy Slack, a12th grader at Woodville-Tompkins was awarded second place nationwide. As a second-place winner, Slack received a $150 Gift Card and an SMG Swag Bag.

    The Stock Market Game™ introduces young people to saving and investing through a simulation of the stock market and bond market. Students get to trade and manage their own virtual $100,000 investment portfolio.

    The game aims to equip students with academic and life skills such as:

    • Improved math, economics, and personal financial capability
    • Greater awareness of current events and global news

    More than 600,000 students take part every school year across all 50 states. The Stock Market Game has reached 22 million students since its inception in 1977.

    Teachers provide guidance that teaches students investment skills, and instills in them the importance of critical thinking, decision making, and collaboration.

    Slack was the first student ever to finish with First Place in the state competition three consecutive times.
