RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WSAV) – Bryan County Schools is increasing its law enforcement presence at all campuses this week after “vague and unverified threats” on social media, the district said in a letter to parents.

This comes in the wake of the deadly Apalachee High School shooting and threats to more than 20 school districts across the state.

Officials at Bryan County Schools say they are working with the Pembroke Police Department, Richmond Hill Police Department and the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the threats and trace the origin of the social media posts.

The district reiterated that these threats have not been deemed credible, but they are still taking preventive measures and boosting security.

    The letter to parents continued:

In the wake of the recent tragedy in Georgia, it is deeply unfortunate that some individuals exploit the heightened sense of concern by issuing threats to incite fear and alarm. Bryan County Schools treats every threat with the highest level of seriousness and will pursue legal action against anyone found responsible for making threats against our schools.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding school safety, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s principal. Each principal is fully prepared to speak with you about how Bryan County Schools addresses school safety.

Nearby school districts have also been the subject of threats, resulting in at least two arrests: a fourth grader in Claxton and a 17-year-old in Toombs County.
