BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – The Bryan County Commissioners approved repair contracts for three heavily damaged roads on the north end of Bryan County at their meeting on Tuesday.

The washout caused by flooding from Tropical Storm Debby. This caused headaches for drivers and people who live there, but the relief is coming soon with financial help from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Harry Hagan Road, Ash Branch Road and Canterwood Drive will be the roads to receive repairs. The project totals around $580,000, which FEMA will be paying.

Waymond Hagan lives on Harry Hagan Road in Pembroke. He was happy to hear that repairs are on the way.

“Everywhere I go has been a headache, because there’s Ash Branch Road that’s closed,” he said. “And we got to go all the way around to get to Statesboro, that’s one of our favorite places.”

He has lived on this road for decades, but he said that this was historic flooding.

“When I was a kid, this was a wooden bridge. It washed out every time it rained,” Hagan said. But it hasn’t washed out in 25 or 30 years.

    Here are the estimated costs:

    • $280,219 – Harry Hagan Road
    • $270,319 – Ash Branch Road
    • $28,400 – Canterwood Drive

Work on these roads is expected to begin soon and the commissioners expect the projects to be finished within months. Bryan County will still be under a local state of emergency for 10 more days.
