SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – With multiple Chatham County schools receiving threats through social media and by phone, some local schools were locked down for safety on Tuesday.

WSAV News 3 reached out to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) about the different levels of lockdowns and what it all means.

    SCCPSS explained:

Level 1 – Lowest level. Ex: Threat is exterior to the school or police activity near the school. Staff and students take specific safety measures. No one is allowed outside.

Level 2 – Mid level. Ex: Threat is inside the school. Maybe an angry person who may be visibly upset and acting in a threatening manner. Staff and students take specific safety measures. Visitors or vendors who may be in the building are asked to go to a designated location.

Level 3 – Highest level. Ex. Threat is inside the school. Person is threatening the school, or an active shooter is occurring. Full lockdown, staff and students take specific safety measures and shelter in place.
