SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has issued fines to Bryan County and Savannah high schools after an on-the-field incident ended the region contest in the third quarter on Sept. 6 on the campus of Savannah High School.

In a statement from an inquiry made by News 3, the GHSA responded, “Both schools were extremely cooperative during the investigation from Friday night’s incident. Savannah and Bryan County High Schools were both given fines due to several players being ejected and players leaving the sideline area.”

WSAV reached out to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System via email. A spokesperson responded, “I’m not aware of a ruling, but will reach out to our District Athletic Director.”

News also made a phone call to Bryan County High School’s director of Communications and Marketing, Melissa Roberts. The director has yet to respond.

The statement from the GHSA does not state what led to the incident. At the time the game was ended due to the incident, Bryan County led, 28-0.

This week, both teams return to action. Bryan County hosts Portal and Savannah High is on the road against Metter. Both games are scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m.
