SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – It’s a good feeling when a plan comes together.

WSAV planned to stop by Pulaski Elementary School to surprise a deserving teacher and to help her take her big plans and bring them to life.

Dianne Martins is a teacher at the school, and she’s our next “A Banana for the Teacher” winner.

“Every year we’re trying to become a better version of ourselves. This year I’m trying to become better as far as reading and getting kids excited about reading,” Martins said.

With a surprise and a $500 grant from WSAV, the Savannah Bananas and Farah & Farah she can take reading to new heights in her classroom.

“Reading is a struggle for many kids, and I was trying to create something where my kids would get excited,” Martins told WSAV.

“That’s why we do this. she talked about everyone making better versions of themselves, and that’s why we’re here today and giving these away so we can do that, as well,” said Glory Paul from Farah & Farah.

The money will help build a special reading nook for the kids and help them get ready for the next step.

“These are my babies. My goal is to get them to third grade but not just to get them to third grade, but to get them to where they’re excited to be in third grade and they feel like they’re ready,” said Martins.
