JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV)—Sheriff Preston Bohannon of the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office (JDCSO) said that through a joint operation, around $40,000-50,000 worth of methamphetamine was seized.

Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the JDCSO drug investigator and deputies along with Appling County investigators, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Homeland Security initiated a search warrant at a residence in Jeff Davis County. This was following the delivery of a suspicious package that was intercepted and contained two kilograms of methamphetamine, the JDCSO said in a Facebook post.

The package was delivered to the address to confirm the identity of the receiving party, the JDCSO said. They also said that during the search of the residence, agents discovered a package containing a horse saddle that the drugs were smuggled in.

JDCSO said that one man was arrested and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and is still in custody.

“Make no mistake about it, the two kilos of methamphetamine were destined for the Jeff Davis County community and surrounding counties,” the JDCSO post said. “This office will continue to work diligently with our law enforcement partners to ensure that those responsible for this level of drug trafficking are apprehended.”

    This investigation is ongoing.
