RIDGELAND, S.C. (WSAV) – The Jasper County Detention center caught fire Saturday night, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeff Crosby tells News 3.

Crosby says the call came in around 8:30 p.m., and several deputies were dispatched to the detention center. The fire has since been extinguished.

The fire injured multiple staff members and inmates, who were sent to the hospital for treatment, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, who is currently investigating the incident.

Jasper County Detention Center conducted a head count at the jail. They believe all prisoners are accounted for. There appears to be no threat to the public.

The cause or extent of the fire is unknown at this time.
