SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Services have been restored after fiber cuts caused cell and internet disruptions for many customers around Savannah and surrounding areas.

A Verizon spokesperson told News 3 that a third-party vendor experienced two fiber cuts, causing the service disruptions.

After several hours of outages, customers saw their service improving around 9 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, Sparklight (formerly Hargray) customers in the Lowcountry experienced a 10-hour outage due to multiple third-party fiber cuts.

“In a rare circumstance, fiber damage was sustained in four locations, disrupting both Hargray’s primary and redundant lines,” a statement from the company read. “Due to the complexity of repairing damaged fiber, which requires time to locate, excavate, splice and re-bury, time to repair can be lengthy. Technicians worked throughout the day and overnight to replace and repair the damaged fibers to restore services as quickly as possible to all impacted customers.”

Beaufort city offices were among those experiencing issues.
