Savannahians from all different nationalities showed off all their cultures have to offer at the Hispanic Heritage Month Festival Saturday.

“We’re celebrating what we love the most, music food, comradery and just fun,” said Alfonso Ribot, President and CEO for the Metropolitan-Savannah Hispanic Chamber of commerce, the organizer of the event.

“We have a responsibility to represent our country,” said Camilo Gaboa who was attending the festival. “As Hispanics, we are from Colombia, so we are always looking for places to share our heritage so it’s good to have these opportunities with the community.”

“This city belongs to you too, so this is a way for us to remember and to celebrate, and for us to be able to celebrate you,” said Savannah Mayor Van Johnson.

The event observes Hispanic Heritage Month in the Hostess City. Ribot says it’s about celebrating our differences and sharing a little piece of home.

“We fit right in because that’s what we do,” said Ribot. “All of our countries that’s what characterizes Hispanics, we come with open arms and we embrace everybody.”

The Hispanic Chamber puts on events this year round. Theyre expecting another large crowd for their Dia de los Muertos celebration.
