BLUFFTON, S.C. (WSAV) – The Bluffton Police Department (BPD) is investigating alleged threats against Beaufort County Schools.

The investigation comes after parents were sent a letter regarding alleged threats made on social media. The threats are currently seen as non-credible, but the BPD continues to operate out of an abundance of caution.

    The letter reads as follows:

    “Dear Families,

“In recent weeks, schools nationwide have been informed of potential threats on social media. We are writing to let you know we were informed today of a TikTok social media post referencing a potential threat this week at Bluffton Middle School (9/25), H.E. McCracken Middle School (9/24), Red Cedar Elementary School (9/26), M.C. Riley Elementary School (9/27), and Bluffton Elementary School (9/23) that has been reported to law enforcement who is investigating. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased law enforcement presence at these schools.

“As a reminder, any individuals making school threats are fully subject to law enforcement and school disciplinary action.

“We are thankful for our law enforcement partners’ commitment to the well-being and safety of our school community.”

BPD says that in addition to increasing school resource officers inside the buildings, officers will focus patrol routes in the parking lots and roads neighboring each campus for at least the next few days.
