JEFF DAVIS, Ga. (WSAV) — The Jeff Davis County Schools administrative team said that they have developed a re-entry plan for their schools.

“Please be aware that ALL of this is contingent on power restoration and is subject to change if power is not restored to the majority of our community within the projected timeline,” their post said. “Our primary goal is to bring students back to school as soon as it is safely possible, ensuring they have access to food, shelter, and support to help ease the burden our community is facing.”

They said they are planning for staff to return on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and Thursday, Oct. 17, for workdays. Students are tentatively scheduled to return on Friday, Oct. 18.

“These dates may be postponed if the majority of the community is still without power,” the school district said.

Some in the comments said that they are on day 11 or 12 without power and they didn’t plan for their children to return back to school until their household had power restored.

In the meantime, the school district said they are working with EMA to secure resources such as shower trucks and mobile laundry units to assist our community and they are working on scheduling food distributions in our community later this week.

They said that they will also be turning on the public Wi-Fi network at the football stadium to provide internet access.
