BRUNSWICK, Ga. (WSAV) – An attempted shooting during a fit of road rage has led to a man being convicted of multiple charges in a Glynn County Superior Court.

It was announced Wednesday that Jalen L. Cook has been convicted of four counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

According to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, on Dec. 26, 2023, the victims (husband, wife and two children) were driving down Highway US-17 to Jekyll Island when Cook cut out in front of them. The husband was able to avoid a collision and honked his horn.

Cook then cut back into their lane before pulling alongside them and opening fire with a 9mm handgun. The bullet struck the wife’s chin who was sitting in the passenger seat and then “ricocheted” off the husband’s chest, the district attorney’s office said.

After opening fire, Cook fled the scene. Through their investigation using objective surveillance video, car registration records and employee records, Glynn County detectives identified him as the shooter.

The State presented photographic evidence and victim impact through live testimony.

Cook was sentenced to 20 years to serve 18 years in the Department of Corrections for count 1, 20 years to serve 18 for counts 2-4 to be served concurrent to count 1, and 5 years probated consecutive to count 1 for count 5.
