ATHENS, Ga. (WSAV) — This week had all the makings of a trap game for Georgia. The Bulldogs playing what many people feel is an inferior Mississippi State team, while next week a road date with the No. 1 team in the nation, Texas, awaits.

Early on, Georgia appeared to fall for the trap. Quarterback Carson Beck picked off on Georgia’s opening possession, his fourth interception of the season. Mississippi State takes over on the Georgia 26-yard line. Mississippi State would convert the turnover into points. A 47-yard field goal gives the visitors a 3-0 lead. Georgia would respond with a field goal of its own. Peyton Woodring connects from 45 yards out and ties the game at 3. After a three-and-out by Mississippi State, Georgia went on an 8-play, 81-yard touchdown drive capped off by a Branson Robinson rushing score. Georgia takes its first lead of the contest, 10-3.

Early in the second quarter, Georgia extended its lead on Peyton Woodring’s second field goal of the game. This one from 32 yards out. Georgia goes up, 13-3. Later in the quarter, the visitors would open up the playbook. Michael Van Buren Jr. hit Mario Carver for a 71-yard completion. Two players later, after an offensive pass interference negated a touchdown and a false start backed up Mississippi State 20 yards, Van Buren found Kelly Akharaiyi from 24 yards out. This cut the Georiga lead to three, 13-10. Georgia again would answer with a touchdown. Carson Beck scrambled to keep 2-and-5 alive and found Dillon Bell in the back of the end zone. Georgia again led by 10, 20-10. Then with under two minutes remaining in the first half, Beck throws his second touchdown of the evening to Luckie Larson. The one-yard completion gave Georgia a 27-10 lead at the break.

UGA wins 41-31. They improve to 5-1 on the year. Next week, they travel on the road to face No. 1 Texas.
