COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — A 10th-grade student has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property at the Colleton Preparatory Academy on Tuesday.

On Oct. 15, 2024, the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said they were notified by Colleton Preparatory Academy of a disturbance that occurred on Oct. 14 while the school was closed and after hours.

CCSO said that the student was arguing with classmates in the parking lot after sports practice and removed a firearm from their vehicle. Several students involved were interviewed and a 10th-grade student has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property, they said.

The juvenile has been dismissed from the school and has been charged criminally. CCSO said that the juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, SC.
