SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The Savannah State football team will return to conference play this week after defeating Lincoln University at Tiger Stadium.

This Saturday, the Tigers travel to Jacksonville for a date with Edward Waters. Savannah State sits at 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the SIAC. Edward Waters is 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

The Tigers still have an outside shot of making it to the conference championship.

They need to win out and get some help from other teams. Coach Aaron Kelton said their goal is to win the conference. He also talked about some of the position groups who have impressed him so far this year.

“I thought they did a pretty good job at tight end,” Kelton said. “This past weekend, they had a couple of catches and made some big first down catches for us.  We’ve been good at receiver. We ran the ball pretty well,  so that’s improving. And then our offensive line play has been really, really good the last couple of weeks.”

The game between Savannah State and Edward Waters kicks off at 7 p.m.
