Man shot, killed at north Charlotte apartments, CMPD says

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department investigated a deadly shooting Tuesday morning in north Charlotte.

CMPD said around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, someone shot 32-year-old Jamario Caldwell in the parking lot of the Seigle Point Apartment Homes complex in the Belmont neighborhood.

They said Caldwell was then driven about a half mile away and died near Exit 3A of I-277 at 12th and North Davidson Streets.

Resident Artis Clyburn has lived in the Seigle Point apartment complex for 16 years and said there has been an uptick in crime.

“When I first came here, lovely and it seems like the more people that have came in, a lot is going on,” Clyburn said.

Police do not yet have a motive for the crime.

He was the 88th homicide victim of the year. Investigators said they were frustrated that homicides are on the rise in Charlotte.

“Our community does not tolerate this activity, and it is unfortunate that people are resolving issues with gunfire that are then turning into homicides that have real victims behind the scenes. It’s not just the person dead, but it is the person’s family, their children, their friends,” said Maj. Bret Balamucki.

Channel 9 has reported on several shootings in the Seigle Point complex this year.

In May, CMPD arrested a juvenile after police said the kid shot a 13 and 15-year-old in the complex. They both suffered serious injuries.

In April, two cars were shot up in the parking lot.

Clyburn hopes something changes.

“If I could go, I would,” Clyburn said.
