    Wednesday high school playoffs

    Laurens trailed 6-2 entering the final inning on the road at Easley Wednesday night in game two of their 4A upper state finals series.

    A three-run double with no one out by Bennett Edwards cut the deficit to one run. Then, with runners on second and third and two outs, Avery Madden’s chopper to short was mishandled, allowing the tying an go-ahead runs to come home for a 7-6 lead.

    That score held up as Connor Rice stranded the potential tying run at third in the bottom half as the Raiders sweep the series and advance to the 4A state championship series.

    The Raiders face the winner of the North Myrtle Beach/James Island lower state series, scheduled to be decided in a winner-take-all game three Friday.

    The best-of-three 4A state championship series is scheduled to begin Monday at the lower state site.

    Southside Christian run-ruled rival Christ Church, 10-0 in 6 innings, to claim another 1A upper state crown Wednesday night.

    The two-time defending state champs will play in the state championship series for a fourth straight year against the winner of the Lake View/Latta series, which will be decided with a single game Thursday.

    The best-of-three 1A championship series is scheduled to begin Saturday at the lower state site.

    Dorman fell at Lexington, 5-2, in 5A to ends it season.

    Blue Ridge won at Daniel, 2-1, in a 3A elimination game. The Tigers visit Powdersville Friday for the upper state crown with the Patriots needing just one win to claim the title.

    Palmetto won its 3A upper state softball elimination contest at Crescent, 6-4. The Mustangs face another Anderson County rival, BHP, for the upper state title Friday with the Bears needing just one win.

    Byrnes’ elimination game at Clover was postponed to Thursday at 6:30pm due to weather.
