SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Debby weakened to a tropical depression Thursday afternoon as the center of the storm passed through central North Carolina.

Maximum sustained winds with Debby dropped to 35 miles per hour as of the 5 p.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

The remnants of Debby will continue to move northeastward and will likely dissipate in a couple of days.

The storm dropped 3.06″ of rain in Spartanburg and 2.82″ in Union as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Upstate has seen wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour in some areas.

The heavy rains prompted a Flash Flood Warning for parts of Spartanburg and Cherokee counties.

Rain will come to an end by midnight in the Upstate and western North Carolina.

The storm knocked out power to thousands across Spartanburg County and caused several roads to close.
