SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – It might be the most unique fundraiser you’ve heard about recently. An Upstate nonprofit invites guests to play games with them underwater to benefit kids with cancer.

Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas (CCP) announced the return of an exciting and unique fundraising event hosted by The Scuba Shop on Saturday, August 17, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.

The Scuba Shop will have an underwater checkers tournament at the Converse University pool to support children battling cancer. Members of the dive community were struck by the devastating news that their child had cancer in 2015 and that’s where the idea came from.

Organizers said guests won’t have to know how to dive. The Scuba Shop will provide free onsite training to help participants get comfortable with the equipment regardless of their diving experience.

The entrance fee is $25, and all proceeds will go directly to CCP. The Scuba Shop is generously covering all event costs.

Participants can register for the event at scubashopsc.com
