CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) – Clemson University is welcoming more than 5,000 first year students to its campus this year. University representatives told 7NEWS a majority of them are moving into the Douthit Hills quarters of the campus near Highway 93/Walter T. Cox Boulevard.

Jacob Bulman is a first-year Clemson student who told 7NEWS he moved from Charlotte, North Carolina.

“They’ve handled it so well,” said Bulman, describing his move-in experience. “Pulling up to your building, parking and waiting, and printing your packet. Very organized. Signs everywhere.”

Clemson University representatives said most of the students in this year’s class, unlike Bulman, are from the Palmetto State, coming from Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson counties, as well as South Carolina’s coast.

“Definitely going to be a new experience. My roommate is awesome. And my [resident advisor] is also awesome. I’m so excited to meet everybody,” said Rachel Durkin, a first-year Clemson student from Horry County.

University reps said the student population is slightly larger this year than last. Their top priority is making the move-in process as seamless as possible.

“We’ve been really intentional to provide a lot of details and information for the students and their families through various platforms, just to ensure that they have what they need,” said Dr. Kimberly Poole, who serves as the assistant vice president and senior associate dean of students at Clemson University.

University officials also said some students have moved from as far as India and Hawaii to be a Clemson Tiger this school year. Lindsay Kasner relocated to Clemson from Pennsylvania.

“I’m just looking forward to getting the whole college experience,” Kasner said. “I watched my brother go through college last year, and he just had the best year of his life.”

According to the university, the top-intended majors for this year’s freshmen class include general engineering, political science, pre-business, nursing, and elementary education.

Students will continue moving onto the Clemson University campus through Friday.
