Weekend construction to close I-85 SB lane

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Construction will close one lane of Interstate 85 southbound in Spartanburg County next week.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, one lane of I-85 near mile marker 80 will close beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, August 23.

The closure will allow crews to construct a new concrete lane.

Work should wrap up by 6 a.m. on Monday, August 26 when traffic will be moved on to two new concrete lanes.

The work is part of the I-85 Widening project in Spartanburg and Cherokee counties which began construction in June 2017. Officials said last year that the majority of the project should wrap up by the end of 2024.
