    Downed tree damages Upstate home; thousands without power

    UPSTATE, S.C. (WSPA) – Thousands of people were in the dark Saturday night after a line of severe storms crossed through the Upstate.

    Duke Energy reported more than 2,000 customers were in the dark around 6:30 p.m. in Spartanburg County. Crews also worked to restore power to more than 3,000 homes in Anderson County. Repairs and damage assessments continued Sunday morning, according to the power company.

    Fire departments across the Upstate responded to a number of downed trees and power lines.

    Spartanburg residents on North Cleveland Park Drive said crews responded to the area after a tree fell onto a home. Neighbors told 7NEWS the home owner is okay.

    South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a tree blocking Arnold Branch Road near the intersection of Fountain Inn Road in Spartanburg County.

    Crews from the Hilltop Fire Department were called to assist when to a power pole snapped on North Church Street. Officials said a portion of Church Street from Whitney Road to North Pine Street was temporarily closed.

    West Wood Street and Houston Street in Spartanburg were also closed Saturday evening due to downed power lines and trees, according to the fire department.

    Troopers in Grenville County said a tree blocked the intersection of Lee Vaughn Road and Roy Thomason Road.

    In Anderson County, officials reported multiple trees blown down across the southern part of the county from Starr headed east into Honea Path.

    Viewers sent in storm damage as the cleanup began.
