ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Officials in Anderson School District One have released new details about an elementary school designed to help alleviate overcrowding in the district.

The school is titled “Oak Hill Elementary” and is under construction near the intersection of Oak Hill Road and Elrod Road in the Powdersville community.

Oak Hill Elementary School will be two stories and accommodate 500 students.

“Being able to not have to worry about students going outside to go to class, or related arts, or any of that stuff when you have a new school, that’ll be great for the community,” said Dr. Young, who serves as the superintendent for Anderson School District One.

Young told 7NEWS it is a $44 million project made possible through district funds and local-option sales tax money.

“We’re really proud that we’re able to build a brand new school and renovate an elementary school without having to go to taxpayers and ask for a bond referendum,” Young added. “It just goes to show how responsible, fiscally responsible the board is.”

Young also said the aim of the project is to make the population growth in nearby communities more manageable.

“Anybody in Powdersville knows that Hood Road gets so crowded because we have three schools right there. And that’ll take a chunk of families off of there to send to the new school. So, all of that is really going to help that end of the district,” Young explained.

The school will include spaces that support professional development for teachers as well as a full-size gym. It is expected to be completed in June of 2026.
