Driver in hospital after McDowell Co. car crash

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — Drivers on I-40 eastbound may have experiences some extra congestion on the roads today, after a mid-afternoon car crash.

According to McDowell County Emergency Management, the crash in the area of mile marker 86, or the NC 226 exit.

A tractor trailer was traveling east in the left lane, when the trailer had to stop due to some traffic caused by the right lane being closed.

A 2008 Toyota Tundra subsequently rear-ended the tractor trailer.

The trailer driver was uninjured, while the truck driver was taken to Mission Hospital for treatment.
