GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A large tree fell along a Greenville County road Tuesday afternoon, knocking out power to hundreds.

The tree fell across Perry Road near Assembly Drive, according to the Parker District Fire Department.

“I actually came home for lunch and was sitting in the chair with my puppies,” Michael Muyot said. “Then, I heard this massive boom. I could not believe that the massive tree did not take out a house. Thank God that no one got hurt.”

The fire department said no one was injured, but the tree brought down several power lines.

“The tree was about 70 feet tall,” Deputy Chief Caleb Story said. “It wound up taking a majority of the power lines that were on that side of the road.”

Perry Road was blocked for several hours as crews work to clean up the mess.

Duke Energy was on scene working to restore power to nearly 900 customers.

Greenville County Schools said dismissal at nearby Cherrydale Elementary was not affected despite the power outage.

The outage affected traffic signals in at least two busy intersections.

“The main intersections that we saw that were affected were State Park Road and Poinsett Highway and State Park Road and N. Pleasantburg Drive,” Story said.

As of 8 p.m. Tuesday, power had been restored in the neighborhood.
