OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will hold a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening for a 911 operator who suffered a medical emergency overseas.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said the prayer vigil for 911 operator Katie Johns will be held at 7 p.m. at the Oconee County Law Enforcement Center.

Johns was on a trip to Ireland when she had a severe medical emergency and had to be rushed to the hospital in Dublin, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, Johns has been with the agency for nearly 16 years and is married to Walhalla city councilman Kenny Johns.

“Kenny [Johns] is alone in another country, and their children have not been able to make the journey to them yet,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on Facebook.

“We invite the community to join us as we cover the Johns family in prayer.”
