CLINTON, S.C. (WSPA) – Three firefighters were reportedly injured and four buildings were destroyed when a large fire broke out in downtown Clinton Tuesday afternoon.

7NEWS viewer video showed firefighters battling large flames at the House of Pizza restaurant located on Musgrove Street.

Mayor Randy Randall said that three to four buildings were damaged in the blaze.

The fire began at the House of Pizza and continued to spread. Randall called the fire a terrible loss for downtown Clinton, which has been undergoing revitalization efforts.

“Clinton is a small tight-knit community and so everybody knows everybody and these folks are our friends,” said Randall. “So when you lose a business, it’s really heartbreaking and devastating for everybody.”

Three first responders suffered minor injuries, according to officials.

“It’s heartbreaking to see something this traumatic can happen in this area,” said Robert Keller, a witness to the fire. “When I got here, there was a lot of fire. The House of Pizza was completely engulfed.”

Drone video of the scene Wednesday showed four buildings were destroyed in the fire, including House of Pizza.

Firefighters remained at the scene Wednesday putting out hotspots.

Multiple roads remain closed in downtown Clinton, including Musgrove Street, a portion of East Main Street, Enterprise Street, and East Pitts Street.

There’s no word yet on what caused the fire.

The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division has been requested to investigate the fire.
