OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The outdoor warning sirens around Oconee Nuclear Station will be tested multiple times on Thursday, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The testing is required to ensure sirens are operating optimally, after maintenance activities were initiated earlier this week.

The test comes two days after the sirens in Pickens County inadvertently went off during a planned silent communications test.

Duke Energy said that although a siren might sound multiple times, this is part of the testing and not public action is needed.

Local broadcasting stations will not interrupt regular programming to broadcast Emergency Alert System messages.
