HARTWELL, Ga. (WSPA) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are seeking volunteers for the upcoming “Splash Away the Trash” cleanup event on September 14, in support of National Public Lands Day.

Volunteers, individuals or group settings, will help keep the lake clean by gathering litter and other non-natural debris along the shoreline and islands in and around Lake Hartwell.

There will be 12 staffed locations on Lake Hartwell for volunteers to pick up bags and additional supplies from 9 a.m. until noon on September 14.

The organization asks that you register in advance if interested in volunteering. You can register on their website. Volunteers can arrive by boat or vehicle to pick up supplies or to drop-off trash.

For questions, contact Corps of Engineers Park Ranger, Annette Dotson, at 706-856-0300, ext. 0305 or Sadlers Creek State Park Manager, Raymond Felton at 864-226-8950.
