LIBERTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Chief Adam Gilstrap had been the Liberty Police Department Chief of Police since 2013. On Wednesday, the Mayor announced Gilstrap’s resignation.

In a statement posted online, Liberty Mayor Erica Woods stated “the City of Liberty would like to thank Adam Gilstrap for his dedicated service to both the city and it’s police department.”

Woods did not give a reason for his resignation.

Woods said that Captain Vic Tetter will serve as interim police chief while the city diligently works to find the best candidate to lead the department.

According to the city’s website, a little more than 3,000 people call Liberty home.

7NEWS spent the day speaking with people who live in Liberty. Many people said that they weren’t aware of the news. Some said they find it concerning that their chief has resigned.

On the City of Liberty’s website, they have removed Chief Gilstrap and changed their police contacts to now lead with Captain Tetter.

7NEWS did reach out to the police department and city leaders to find out why Gilstrap resigned, but have not heard back at this time.
