GREENWOOD COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Special Agents with the South Carolina Department of Social Services arrested an Upstate woman for fraudulently receiving over $20,000 of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

48-year-old Erin Elizabeth Barber, of Greenwood County, was charged with fraudulent acquisition or use of food stamps greater than $10,000.

According to the arrest warrant, during the periods of April 2019 to March 2020 and October 2020 to September 2023, Barber reported her and two children on six of eight SNAP application forms. Investigators learned that the two children were attending school and living in Rock Hill during the benefit periods making the insurance of $21,445 in benefits ineligible for Barber to receive.

Barber was booked into the Greenwood County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the Eighth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
