It was reported that Belton was last seen the night before his murder at the intersection of Shaw Street and Crest Lane around 11 p.m.

Police said Belton was homeless and used a walker. He was known around the community as “Horse,” “Pops” and “Old Timer.”

Belton’s body was found the next day before 7 p.m. in a vacant apartment that was under renovation by a friend, officers said.

Witnesses reported to authorities hearing multiple gunshots around 4 a.m. the day of Belton’s murder. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Belton died of multiple gunshot wounds around 5 a.m.

Police said due to several individuals being present during the shooting, investigators believe that someone may have information regarding the identity of the suspect(s) and motive behind Belton’s death.
