Woman wanted for ethnic intimidation after Asheville assault

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) — Detectives have identified another individual connected to an assault that occurred at the West Asheville Library in June .

According to the Asheville Police Department, Emily Kathryn Murphy is charged with ethnic intimidation, after an assault occurred at the library on June 29.

Murphy is a white woman, standing at 5-foot-6 tall, with black hair and brown eyes. Police said the 38-year-old frequents Haywood Road in West Asheville.

Police are still working to identify other persons of interest.

What happened?

Officers responded to the library after reports of a fight. At the time of the incident, between 80 and 100 people were at the library attending an ACAB seminar titled “Strategic Lessons from the Palestinian Resistance.”

Officers arrived to a large crowd dispersing.

Reports stated police were able to identify three victims who said a fight broke out while they were live-streaming the event on social media.

Victims told officers another attendee took one of their phones before a large crowd attacked and assaulted them, leaving the victims with minor injuries.
