GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – A man has been charged Tuesday morning after reportedly bringing a firearm to the BMW facility in Greer.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office responded to the facility in response to a disturbance. Deputies learned that BMW security services were notified by employees that someone had brought a firearm to the building.

BMW Manufacturing said their security team worked to “identify the person involved and detain him without any harm to our associates or facilities.”

The suspected individual was identified as Derrell Benson Jr. according to deputies.

Deputies were advised that the property had “No concealable weapons allowed” signs.

Benson was detained by security and then released to the sheriff’s office. He was charged with trespass after notice.

Benson was taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center shortly after 7 a.m.

He received a bond hearing and was later released after Noon.
