HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – The North Carolina Parks and and Recreation Authority approved a $500,000 grant to fund requests from the Town of Mills River for the Mills River park Expansion project, on August 23.

The Town of Mills River received the highest score among all submissions through the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, and was ranked as the top priority for funding.

The $500,000 grants award will help balance funds spent acquiring the property for the Mills River Park Expansion.

The Park Master Plan process includes an exciting future with new and expanded amenities, including additional paced and natural trails, a bike skills area, and a connection to the future 191 Greenway.

The plan also features enhanced play areas, including a splash pad and nature-based play space, as well as improved sports facilities.
