    Four Greenville Co. students charged with threats: school district

    GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — Greenville County Schools announced Thursday that four students were charged for making threats against schools in the district earlier this week.

    District officials said the students are also being recommended for expulsion.

    Upstate school districts, law enforcement speak on school threats

    According to the district, the threats were made against four different schools.


    Blue Ridge Middle School

    One 13-year-old student was arrested in a case that is unrelated to an earlier threat.

    The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said investigators found a text thread where the 13-year-old suspect made statements about bringing a gun to Blue Ridge Middle School. Officials identified the student and pulled the teen from school.

    Deputies found no gun or weapon on the student.

    The sheriff’s office did not specify what the student was charged with.

    Woodmont Middle School

    The second arrest involved a student at Woodmont Middle School, through the district did not share what led to the charge against the student.

    Greer Middle School

    The third arrest involved a 13-year-old student at Greer Middle School .

    On Monday, the Greer Police Department said a middle schooler was charged September 6, in relation to verbal threats of a shooting in the school.

    Reports state a school resource officer was made aware of the threats made during a class on September 5.

    Administration immediately began investigating and removed the student from the school. The school expressed plans to discipline the student in accordance to the district’s behavior code.

    Riverside High School

    The fourth and final arrest concerns a 16-year-old student at Riverside High School. District officials specified that the threat is unrelated to a BB gun attack that occurred Tuesday night.


    Superintendent Dr. Royster, Sheriff Hobart Lewis and multiple police departments emphasized the seriousness of threats made against schools.

    “[Threats] whether intended as a joke or not, are a crime in South Carolina and can result in serious legal consequences for students or adults,” the district said.
