ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Police are asking the public for help in identifying an armed robber they said held up a convenience store at gunpoint early Tuesday morning.

According to the Asheville Police Department, officers responded an armed robbery near the 600 block of Swannanoa River Road just after 12 p.m. Tuesday.

Reports state officers reviewed surveillance video from the store that showed a woman enter, point a gun at the clerk and direct them to lay on the ground before taking the employee’s phone and demanding the cash register be opened. The woman allegedly left the store with cash and left the area by car, heading east on Swannanoa River Road.

Investigators described the suspect as a heavy-set black female wearing all black clothing, a mask and sunglasses. The suspect left the scene in a white SUV.
