GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – A man died Thursday from injuries sustained during an assault a day earlier in front of a downtown Greenville bar.

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, police responded around 2 a.m. Wednesday for an unconscious man on the sidewalk in front of City Tavern on North Main Street.

Police arrived to find the man, identified as 45-year-old Jason Michael Haynie, had been assaulted.

According to a warrant, Haynie fell backward after being punched and hit his head on the sidewalk.

The assault was captured on surveillance cameras from the city and City Tavern, the warrant stated.

Haynie was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries just before noon Thursday.

The coroner said Haynie died from blunt force trauma to the head.

His death was ruled homicide, according to the coroner’s office.

The suspect in the assault, William Brandon Sanders, was arrested Thursday by a U.S. Marshals Task Force and charged with voluntary manslaughter, according to Greenville Police.
