SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man is now in custody after a shooting killed a man and injured two others in Spartanburg County.

On Sunday morning, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office was called to a shooting before 11 a.m. on Thorn Ridge Lane in Boiling Springs.

“Once deputies got to the scene they saw a car that’s been shot, there were people inside the car, near the car that had been shot. One of the occupants in the car appeared to be deceased,” said Lieutenant Kevin Bobo with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified 24-year-old Marco Antonio Velazquez, of Spartanburg, dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office also located three other victims. Two of the victims had apparent gunshot wounds and the other reported that they had been shot at. The two injured victims were taken to the hospital for their injuries.

Their conditions remain unknown at this time.

“While some deputies began rendering aid to those victims, other deputies located the suspect and took him into custody without incident and also recovered the assault rifle that he used in the shooting,” Bobo said.

Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old AB Martinez, of Boiling Springs.

Martinez and the uninjured victim were taken to the sheriff’s office for questioning. Deputies learned everyone involved in the shooting knew each other and had agreed to fight at Martinez’s residence.

“We said this time and time again but it bears repeating, this idea of people trying to solve their own problems with street justice, all that, it doesn’t work out and it just causes more problems,” Bobo said.

Law enforcement said the shooting appeared to be gang-related.

Martinez was charged with murder, three counts of attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Martinez remains in the Spartanburg County Detention Center after his bond was deferred to a circuit court judge.

    The shooting remains under investigation.
