ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – Two people were arrested and two stolen cars were recovered over the weekend thanks to a newly implemented license plate reader system, according to police.

The Asheville Police Department said officers were called to an apartment complex on Granada Street on Saturday after a license plate reader alerted them a stolen vehicle had entered the complex.

At the apartment complex, officers located the vehicle and two occupants, Stephanie Michelle Seleska, and David Richard Webb. When police attempted to contact the occupants, Seleska allegedly tried to run away on foot, but was quickly caught.

During the arrest, Seleska reportedly possessed of 7.5 grams of fentanyl.

She has been charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, probation violations, trafficking opium and resisting arrest.

Later in the evening, officers were able to locate and recover another stolen vehicle on Dearview Road.
