Upstate high school student, guardian killed in crash on US 221

ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – An Upstate high school student and her guardian were killed in a crash Saturday on US 221 in McCormick.

The McCormick County Coroner’s Office said Jasmine Chadwick and her guardian, Victoria ‘Vicky’ Thompson, were the two victims identified in the fatal crash on September 21 near Oak Hill Drive.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, around 5:30 p.m., a Ford Mustang was traveling north on US 221 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and hit a Chrysler Minivan head-on.

There were six occupants in the minivan according to troopers.

Two of the six occupants, Chadwick and Thompson, were both pronounced deceased.

The Abbeville County School District confirmed with 7NEWS that Chadwick was a 10th-grade student at Dixie High School.

The Abbeville County School District sends our heartfelt condolences to the family of Jasmine Chadwick, a 10th-grade student at Dixie High School. Jasmine tragically died as a result of a car accident on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Jasmine’s guardian, Mrs. Vicky Thompson, was also killed.

The Abbeville County School District extends our deepest sympathies to Dixie High School and the surrounding community. We recognize a loss of this magnitude will deeply affect many of our students and staff. Our students’ emotional and social well-being are important to us. Counselors are available to any of our students who would like assistance during this time.

We stand together as a community in honoring Jasmine’s memory. We will continue to provide support in the days ahead.

The crash remains under investigation by the SCHP.
