ANDERSON, S.C. (WSPA) – Two people have died after trees fell on two separate homes Friday morning in Anderson County.

A tree fell on the home on West Whitner Street in Anderson, killing a woman.

“Crews worked for just at an hour to cut through the trees, cut through the debris to make their way inside and discovered that a female succumbed to her injuries inside,” Anderson Fire Chief Charlie King said.

According to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, officials arrived at the house around 7:30 a.m.

The woman was identified as Christine Lynn Schmeiske, 55, of Anderson.

“Crews continue to work the scene to make safe for the neighborhood,” King added. “There are additional trees that have fallen here. So just a lot of work going on in this small community.”

Later, a tree fell on a home on Williams Road near Whiten Road, not far from U.S. 29, killing another person.

The coroner’s office responded to the scene at around 10 a.m.

Officials found the woman under heavy debris, and removing the woman required extrication by rescue personnel.

The woman was identified as sandy Lee Fisher, 54, of Anderson.
