ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Anderson County said they are responding to a related death involving Hurricane Helene.

The death is reported as the fourth, Helene involved death.

According to the coroner’s office, the incident happened on Broadwell Mill Road off Highway 29 and involved a car being swept away by water.

The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Karen Denise McCall, from Anderson.

McCall was reported missing by her family to the Anderson Police Department on Friday morning, according to the coroner’s office. She last spoke to her family around 7:30 a.m. on Friday.

First responders with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson Police Department and the Anderson County Fire Department initiated a search in the area, but were unable to locate the victim due to the severe flooding and heavy damage in the area.

Coroners said McCall had died from drowning, secondary to her vehicle being swept away during the flooding of Harbin Road and the general area.

The investigation indicates that McCall was the unrestrained driver of Toyota Sedan, and was
traveling to pick-up a family member. The vehicle was then swept into the river during the heavy wind and flooding.
