Greenville looking to bounce back after historic flooding, Unity Park no longer underwater

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Greenville saw a lot of flooding from Hurricane Helene. Unity Park was one of the most affected areas.

Greenville officials said the river near Unity Park peaked at more than 16 feet compared to just a foot of water before the storm.

Before Hurricane Helene hit the area, Greenville County officials said they went around the area clearing and draining ditches, doing all they could to prevent severe flooding. But parts of Greenville, especially low-lying parks, such as Unity Park, Falls Park and Cleveland Park still saw historic flooding.

While conditions are starting to improve, crews are still asking for patience.  The City of Greenville said Public Works took over 500 calls on Monday to assist residents with questions and concerns.

“Since Friday, when I was in the field, it is devastating,” Tom Blackwell with Greenville County Emergency Medical Services said.

“This is not Katrina, but it is one minor step down from what I saw in Western Mississippi. It is devastating out there.”

As crews work to restore power in the area along with clearing debris, Greenville Water confirmed with 7NEWS that there are no issues with the water supply.
