SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Some Spartanburg County residents were disappointed Tuesday morning to learn a county distribution point for bottled water and food supplies had run out of food a day before.

On Monday, Spartanburg County announced it would distribute bottled waters and MREs at distribution points on Spartanburg Community College’s Tyger River Campus and on Highway 11 in Campobello.

The distribution points opened were scheduled to remain open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. each day until further notice.

7NEWS viewers who attempted to visit the Highway 11 location said they lined up hours before the 8 a.m. opening only to be told the distribution point had run out of supplies the day before.

According to Scottie Kay Blackwell, communications manager for Spartanburg County, due to overwhelming demand, the county did have to close the distribution point on Highway 11 on Monday.

The county posted a notice about the closure on Facebook and the NextDoor app.

“We have at least a few tractor trailers on the way to replenish the supplies,” Blackwell said in an email.

The county expects to have more details about when those supplies should arrive later today. County officials are also working to establish a third distribution site as well.

Blackwell said as of Tuesday morning there were still supplies at the distribution point on the SCC Tyger River campus. That distribution site is located at 1875 E Main Street, Duncan.
