CLEMSON, S.C. (WSPA) – The Clemson Police Department announced Tuesday that the agency is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest regarding drink spiking in the city.

Officers are offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to an arrest.

7NEWS previously reported that the agency received reports of suspected drink spiking that has occurred in the downtown bars.

According to Clemson Police Chief Jorge Campos, his department has been able to confirm that “less than five” people were drugged because they sought medical help and had medical tests completed, which verified that a substance or substances were found in their bodies.

Campos was not able to reveal which substances were detected in the blood tests due to the nature of the investigation but mentioned it is a difficult investigation because there is a delay from when a person experiences symptoms to when they file a report.

He also said drinks are often spiked in crowded, public places, which makes it hard to pinpoint who did it and when.

Investigators are working to determine who is responsible for allegedly drugging the victims.

Anonymous Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Oconee County via their website at www.oconeesccrimestoppers.com or (884) 712-7463 .

The act of spiking another’s drink or food is a felony in South Carolina and is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
