    85-year-old dies following hit-and-run in Asheville

    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision in which an 85-year-old man was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening.

    Officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Acton Circle and Monte Vista Road around 7:30 p.m.

    Investigators learned that Robert David Bennett was hit by a dark-colored sedan while crossing Monte Vista Road. He died at the scene.

    The driver of the vehicle left the scene before officers arrived according to police.

    Officers said they believe the vehicle involved is a black Toyota Prius with a damaged windshield, missing the Toyota emblem from the front grill. Detectives also believe the driver is a white female.
