SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Utility workers are working around the clock to restore power to several traffic lights and businesses throughout the Carolinas.

One Spartanburg neighborhood close to two large highways is without electricity and surrounded with downed trees and utility poles.

The Woodley Road and Becknell Drive intersection is just one example of the damage caused by the tropical storm.

Jewel Wallenda said she’s hopeful for electricity soon to care for her young daughter.

“We do not have electricity so that’s a big concern especially with her,” Wallenda said. “We all had to take a cold shower the other day; its what you got to do for right now.”

During last week’s storm, Wallenda said two trees fell on her home.

“We were all inside at the time but I just heard trees breaking left and right. There was a tree that had fallen on the back of the house,” Wallenda continued. “There was a branch through my daughters room, thankfully she wasn’t in there she was in the living room with me. We know that same tree did damage to my neighbors property as well.”

Neighbors said they are frustrated that some property owners did not maintain their trees and bushes better. One woman even said a neighbor’s trees fell on her yard and thought she might be responsible for the cost of the cleanup.

“There’s a big ole gaping hole in the roof, so if it started raining or anything the house could potentially flood,” said Wallenda.

Wallenda said she is working with the landlord and others to fix the damage to her home. At the moment, she said it’s borderline unlivable.
