(WSPA) – Residents in South Carolina now have more time to register to vote ahead of the 2024 election.

An eight-day extension was ordered due to the widespread impact of Hurricane Helene.

The voter registration deadline is now October 14.

The storm forced the closure of several voter registration offices for days. Some offices remain closed in Edgefield, Laurens, and McCormick counties.

You can register to vote online or in person.

Visit scvotes.gov to register or download a registration form which you can complete and return to your county voter registration office.

If you mail the form, it must be postmarked by Monday, October 14. Faxed and emailed registration forms must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 14.

If you’re already registered, visit the “ Check My Registration ” page on SCvotes.gov to confirm and make sure your registration is up to date.

Helene left a widespread path of destruction through the Carolinas, killing 41 in South Carolina and more than 100 in North Carolina and leaving hundreds of thousands without power.
